The City of Jacksonville applied for and received an official Enterprise Zone designation, effective July 1, 1995. An Enterprise Zone is an area targeted for economic revitalization. Jacksonville's Enterprise Zone is approximately 16.3 square miles with a population of 59,653. Jacksonville's Enterprise Zone allows qualified businesses to take advantage of the financial incentives offered by the State as well as the local government.
The Jacksonville Enterprise Zone Development Agency was created by City Council on April 25, 1995 and signed into law on May 3, 1995 by Mayor Ed Austin. Staff for the Agency is provided by the City of Jacksonville's Economic Development Division. The overall responsibility of JEZDA is to ensure that proposed and committed projects within the Enterprise Zone Development Plan (Strategic Plan) are implemented while business activity and residents located within the Enterprise Zone are afforded maximum opportunities for business development, expansion and employment. Specific responsibilities of the Agency include marketing the Enterprise Zone Program while certifying tax credits/refund applications for new, existing and expanding businesses located within the Enterprise Zone on a day to day basis.
For more information concerning specific benefits offered by the Enterprise Zone, please contact Joseph Whitaker, Enterprise Zone Coordinator, 220 East Bay Street, 4th floor City Hall Annex, Jacksonville, FL 32202, (904) 630-1624.
